At Nwando Care, safeguarding is central to everything we do. Whether we are supporting an older person at home or caring for a young person in residential care, our priority is always to keep people safe from abuse, neglect and exploitation. We follow rigorous standards to make sure every individual — regardless of age, background or care setting — is protected, respected and empowered.
The Care Act 2014 and CQC safeguarding standards
The Children Act 1989 and 2004
Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023
Mental Capacity Act and DoLS
Ofsted Children's Homes Regulations
National Safeguarding Adults Principles
In our adult social care services — including home care, reablement and supported living — we support people to live safely and with dignity in their own homes and communities.
All of our staff are trained to recognise the signs of abuse or neglect and to take immediate action. Safeguarding adults is built on the six national principles:
We support individuals to make informed choices
We act early to reduce the risk of harm
We respond in a balanced and respectful way
We identify and help those at greatest risk
We work with local safeguarding teams and families
We take full responsibility for our care environment
Physical, emotional or sexual abuse
Financial exploitation or neglect
Institutional, discriminatory or organisational abuse
Self-neglect and unsafe living conditions
Breaches of privacy or dignity
Our teams are trained in the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and person-centred risk management. Concerns are reported immediately to local authority safeguarding teams and followed up with clear documentation and review.
If you are concerned about an adult in our care, please contact us or your local council safeguarding team straight away.
In our Ofsted-registered children’s homes, safeguarding is a daily priority. We support children aged 8–17 who may have experienced trauma, neglect, or previous care disruption. Each child has a personalised care plan and risk assessment. Safeguarding practice is child-centred, trauma-informed and strictly regulated.
All residential care staff receive enhanced safeguarding training, including:
Child protection and contextual safeguarding
Recognising exploitation or grooming risks
Safe working practice and reporting concerns
Positive Behaviour Support and de-escalation
Supporting disclosures and trauma recovery
Each home has a Registered Manager and a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who oversee all safeguarding activity. The DSLs liaise with:
Children’s social care teams
Police and Local Safeguarding Partnerships
Education and CAMHS professionals
Families, advocates and Independent Visitors
We promote an open culture where children know their rights and feel safe to speak up. Safeguarding concerns are acted upon immediately and shared transparently with the placing authority.
Nwando Care has named Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) for both adult and children’s services.
